Lisbon, block by block

From Príncipe Real to Alfama: where to buy for light, quiet and the city's best miradouros.

Lisbon rewards patience. Two streets can feel like two different cities, and the right apartment is often one floor higher than the one you are shown first.

Príncipe Real

Garden squares, antique shops and generous 19th-century apartments with tall windows. Look for west-facing units above the third floor.

Alfama and Graça

Steeper, older, louder — and home to the best river views in the city. Buy for the terrace, and plan for the stairs.
